Supercharging a Startup – How We Helped Launch a New Business

Who are Procure Education?

Procure Education started off as an idea by ambitious founder Sebastian Godwin.

He wanted to make procurement fair, transparent and focused on delivering real value for schools where it matters most.

In schools, procurement is often handled by overstretched business managers, headteachers or, in worst-case scenarios, teachers (in addition to all of their other responsibilities!).

And, unfortunately, most procurement businesses know this, often taking advantage and creating a broken, supplier-led system that doesn’t benefit the school.

Procure wanted to do things differently. They saw that the system wasn’t working for schools. Contracts were poor, prices were rising, quality was inconsistent and the workload was falling on staff who already had too much to do.

They stepped in to fix it.

With extensive experience in both school procurement and finance, Procure set out to change things, with Catalyst as partners.

The Challenge

30 pages of detailed business plans, but no brand, no website, no marketing strategy.

The challenge was fairly clear to us from the outset:

How can we create a brand that disrupts the market, one that talks to education leaders in the right way, one that shows that there’s another way to handle procurement?

The team knew the market inside and out, but it is one that’s notoriously difficult to articulate, differentiate in and disrupt.

They needed us to turn their market insight into a clear narrative, a compelling value proposition and a brand that could confidently challenge the status quo.

Our Solution

Step 1:

We started by getting the fundamentals right. Through our Growth Audit, we worked closely with Procure to understand their experience, ambitions and market landscape.

We developed their brand identity from the ground up, combining competitor research, positioning, messaging and website planning to ensure they would resonate with their target audience and appear credible from day one.

Step 2:

Once the strategy was defined, we launched a complete brand and website built to clearly articulate their proposition and generate organic leads.

This was supported by a joined-up marketing strategy spanning PR, email, social, content, paid media and SEO.

Step 3:

As data has been gathered, we have refined and strengthened the strategy. Ongoing optimisation has allowed Procure to build momentum, expand their reach and continue growing with confidence.

The Result

‘Procure exists today with clarity, confidence and momentum because of the partnership we have built. They have become a true extension of our team.’

From a brand-new business that had never traded, we built a credible, lead-generating platform that is already creating meaningful conversations with schools and education groups across the UK.

This is just the beginning. Our focus now is to build on that momentum and support Procure’s continued growth at pace.

Catalyst have been instrumental in taking Procure from a bold idea to a successful, fast-growing reality. We came into the project with deep sector knowledge and a clear view of what needed fixing in the education procurement system, but we needed a partner who could help us articulate that vision and bring it to life.

The Catalyst team challenged our thinking, sharpened our proposition and built a brand that genuinely reflects who we are and the change we want to create in schools.
